Fatty tissue under your chin at your neck can make you look larger and older than you actually are. At Center4Health, Dr. Elizabeth Covington and the team of expert providers offer submental liposuction that removes this fatty tissue, so you get a streamlined profile. Members of the Los Angeles community can benefit from this neck liposuction by calling the office or booking an appointment online.
During liposuction of the neck, a fine slit is made just under your chin (the submental area), and then mini-cannulas suction away excess fat. The overlying skin and remaining tissue are sculpted to create a streamlined look.
The procedure benefits older men and women who want noticeable changes in the shape of their aging necks, but don’t want an intensive neck-lift operation. Younger patients who have stubborn pockets of fat at the neck may also elect neck liposuction.
The team at Center4Health provides an evaluation to determine if your health and your skin’s elasticity are suitable for the procedure. They ensure that the type of fat and location of the fat will respond well to the procedure. Your own expectations and goals also factor into whether neck liposuction is the right procedure for you.
Neck liposuction is usually performed as an outpatient procedure, meaning you go home the same day. The procedure is done while you’re under local anesthesia, with some patients also getting oral sedation to ease anxiety. The entire procedure lasts about 30 minutes.
For the first night following the procedure, you wear a special wrap around your neck to protect the incision sites and calm inflammation. After a post-op follow-up visit on the day after the liposuction, you continue to wear a wrap for approximately one week. You do need to restrict physical activity for about a week as well. You’re given oral prescription pain medications for a few days to control the pain, and then switch to over-the-counter anti-inflammatories as needed.
Liposuction of the neck eliminates fat cells for good. Your body does not produce new fat cells to replace them. If you do gain weight, other fat cells in the neck that weren’t removed with the procedure may still swell, however.
If you have excess fat at your neck and under your chin, call the Center4Health or book a consultation online to learn if neck liposuction can help you.
